Course description:
Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD) affects many children who are seen by speech-language pathologists. These children suffer with hyper- or hypo sensitivity to sights, sounds, or touch which affects their abilities to learn and socialize. This workshop provides an overview of SPD, its subtypes in children (pre-k to middle school), and strategies for identification and treatment. Self-regulation concepts and strategies will be provided as the foundation and key to working with clients with SPD.
Learning Objectives – As a result of this workshop, attendees will be able to:
- Name the 3 SPD Primary Patterns and subtypes as well as red flags for identifying them.
- Implement treatment strategies for each SPD subtypes.
- Define self-regulation and list strategies that foster regulation in children with SPD.
Presenter: Vincent Incognoli, Occupational Therapist – provides treatment to pediatric clients at his private practice, Sensory Works Occupational Therapy PC/ Sensory Integration and Praxis Test certified/ DIR trained/ caseload- early intervention through young adulthood/ specialty area- Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
